Despacito, a song by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi with Daddy Yankee was released in the year 2017. It was the top streamed song at the period within the space of six months. The song is a blend of reggaeton, pop and rock did not just bring interest in reggaeton but also attracted attention to Latin music generally. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs predominantly in Spanish by 2016 compared to two in the year 2015. At the peak of Despacito's popularity in 2017 however 19 predominantly Spanish tracks made the top 100, and in 2020 there were 41 songs. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 in a bilingual version. In the following months, several artists collaborated with Reggaeton stars including Drake and Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma and Medellin 2019 In the year 2020, some Reggaeton artists were complaining about the advancing of the genre towards the mainstream. Yet, a young generation, such as Rauw Alejandro was keen to keep the trend going. The musician incorporated electronic dance music and other genres into his songs.
